The clients asked me to create some large doors to retro fit in their architectural open plan house in the Highlands. The brief was to minimise the visual impact on the open plan aesthetic whilst giving the clients an option to close off sections of their house when required. At this stage in the build of their house there was no option to design the doors to sit all the way to the ceiling. Instead the self supporting beam for the door runner tracks was kept to a minimum size and clad with the same spruce that had been used elsewhere in the house build.
An arresting design for a stair with integrated shelving. The shelving appears to hang from the ceiling, flowing down the side of the stair and pooling at the bottom. The full height spindles create a striking barrier between the open shelving and the stair, reaching all the way to the 1st floor banister.
Stair & shelving in Birch Ply. Balustrade, Handrail & tread nosing in Ash.
A modern creative solution for an awkward space. The storage wall steps out from the door to the window to maximise the storage space whilst creating a pleasing visual impact.
Birch ply doors with recessed handles utilising reclaimed teak. Phenolic ply cabinetry. Standard euro storage boxes were used for practical and economic drawer storage.
